Appearance▾
How Context Chinese looks, reads, and is navigated on this device.
Dark Mode
Switches the paper-and-ink theme to a dark palette.
Left-Handed Mode
Mirrors mode buttons, progression buttons, tone keys, and keycap keyboards to the opposite side on every practice page, in both normal and fullscreen view — idle preview animations mirror to match.
Parental Controls
Filters vulgar, sexual, and gambling-related content out of dictionary lookups sitewide — a word with one flagged sense keeps its other meanings, and only loses the whole entry if every sense is flagged. Also swaps in family-friendly text for the handful of hand-written descriptions (like Geography's Macau note) flagged the same way.
Interface Language
English shows Chinese + English side by side in the nav; 中文 shows Chinese only.
Script
All content is authored in simplified Chinese; traditional is a live character-for-character conversion. The Writing Practice canvas itself always quizzes the simplified form.
Navigation
Drag items to reorder them in navigation bar. Turn one off to remove it completely, everywhere, until you turn it back on.
Pinyin Tone Colors
Color codes pinyin text sitewide.
Hanzi Tone Colors
Color codes Hanzi characters being drawn in Writing Practice by their tone. Doesn't affect non-drawn Hanzi.

Practice▾

Exclude Known K words
Skip words you've tagged Known in Word Bank when building a practice queue.
Daily Study
Shows the sunrise Daily Study checkbox on your Word Bank's own row and on every folder pill, so you can trickle in new words from any of them a few at a time. Turning this off hides that checkbox everywhere instead of just leaving it unchecked.
New Words per Daily Study
How many brand-new words Daily Study introduces per calendar day, for any Word Bank or folder you've turned it on for.
Multiple Choice
Controls when the board reshuffles in Multiple Choice.
Matches before reshuffling
How many of the board's 5 word/definition pairs must be matched before the rest are shuffled back into the deck and a fresh 5 words and 5 definitions are dealt. Default 3; set to 5 to wait for the whole board instead.
Hanzi Writing Practice
Tunes how the stroke-order quiz in Writing Practice grades you.
Show hint after misses
Number of failed strokes before the correct stroke is shown.
Stroke grading leniency
Higher is more forgiving of imprecise strokes. Default 1.
Stroke fade duration (ms)
How long a mistaken stroke lingers before fading away. Default 400.
Brush stroke width
Multiplier on the thickness of the line drawn as you write. Default 1.0.
Auto-advance multi-character words
Move straight to a word's next character on success, without clicking Next. Only between characters of the same word — moving on to a new word still needs Next.
